ANN: Couchbase Mobile 1.4 Developer Preview

We are really excited to announce the developer preview of Couchbase Mobile 1.4. The build is fully functional but hasn’t yet completed the QA processes.

With Couchbase Mobile 1.4, it is now possible to delegate the task of applying security filtering (access control) to a separate component called Sync Gateway Accelerator. It can be scaled horizontally just like Couchbase Server and Couchbase Sync Gateway to handle increased total write throughput.

You can download the Sync Gateway here. To download Sync Gateway Accelerator, you need to click the “Add-ons” tab as shown below –

We’ve also made bug fixes and minor enhancements and the complete is available in Sync Gateway release notes. Ditto for Couchbase Lite – LINQ support for .NET is here! We’ve also squashed quite a few bugs! For the complete list, please check out the Couchbase Lite release notes.

If you find any regressions, please let us know ASAP by filing an issue on the appropriate project in Github:

We hope to release Couchbase Mobile 1.4 in early March, and would appreciate your help in finding and fixing issues.

We look forward to your feedback!

We would really like to hear about any issues found with this preview. The sooner you report issues, the more likely they will be fixed in the final 1.4.0 release.

Hi,

couple questions to CBL for Android:

  • is it still OK to publish an Android app with Android version 15 with CBL 1.4? And as soon as CBL 2.0 is out, it’s best to set the min SDK level to 16?
  • ForestDB will be deprecated: I thought it’s the new cool thing? Can I read about its development status somewhere to understand why it will be deprecated

Best, Ben

For 1.4 both Android API Level 15 and ForestDB will be supported.

For 2.0 we are dropping support for Android API Level 15 and below.

The initial release of 2.0 will not support ForestDB, however it may be supported in a future version.
