I’m happy to announce that wireshark is now able to dissect the BLIP protocol, which is the encoding used for Couchbase Lite replication with Sync Gateway (And replication between two Sync Gateway nodes). Actually, this capability has been around since Wireshark 3.0, but it has flown largely under the radar. It is a great educational and possibly diagnostic tool if you know what you are looking for. For those who don’t, which is probably most, here is a blog post I wrote detailing how it works. Happy dissecting!
