Does Couchbase Community Edition 2.1.1 support Windows 2012?

Dear Sir,

I am trying to figure out if Couchbase Community 2.1.1 support Windows 2012 or not.

I found the supported platforms in the follow link:
http://docs.couchbase.com/couchbase-manual-2.1/#preparation

which shows platform supported by Server 2.1:

Platform Version Supported

Windows 2012 64 bit Developer only

Could you advise if “Developer only” stands for “Community Edition”?

Thanks a lot in advance.

David

Hello,

Since your are talking about a Community Edition this simply means that the only support you will get is using community (Q&A, and other communities), so we do our best.

However, even for Community Edition it is always better to use a supported platform to avoid surprises, and the fact that our community won’t necessary take the time to try to reproduce an issue on this configuration. Especially now that it is supported officially in 2.2 release.

This mention is really more important for enterprise edition, meaning: we won’t support you if you put your production on a Windows 2012.

Hi Tug,

Many thanks for your quick reply. We are under evaluation of Couchbase, but as I mentioned, the word “Developer Only” confuses us. We have no idea if “Developer Only” means “Couchbase CE” also supports the platform. Or, there is another place to show platforms supported by Coucbase CE? Is the link (http://docs.couchbase.com/couchbase-manual-2.1/#installing-and-upgrading) we are looking at just for Couchbase production?

Thanks again, hope this not bother you.

Hello,

This list of supported platform (and type Dev/Server) is for the people that are using the Enterprise Edition with the enterprise support service from Couchbase. This is the list of environment that we have validated and where we can find and fix the issue quickly. In this case, for Windows 2012 and Couchbase 2.1, we would support only the development environment and do not support the server to deploy mission critical applications. (we have done lot of work in release 2.2 to support Windows 2012)
The “best answer” will be, if you want to deploy in production on Windows 2012, use the Enterprise Edition and get support.

Like any Community Edition it is only “supported” by the community, so it does not change a lot. But remember that we have done less “high load” tests on developer station than servers. (to validate the fact that the platform is officially supported as a server)

Hope this clarifies…
