Want to translate documentation for Japanese

Most of the Japanese developer does not read English documents, because they are not good at English.
I want to translate to make Couchbase server (version.4+) available to Japanese.

When Couchbase version3 was released, I was helping a translation on github.

Documentation for upcoming release is brewing at docs-cb4 branch of https://github.com/couchbase/docs-cb4 reposoitory, but I’m not sure how translations fit new structure.

@ingenthr should know better about this

Im also very interested in this process. How was the Japanese portion of Couchbase.com done? Is the process different now? I’m trying to get this going on the Couchbase lite side as well. If the process is easy enough then I think quite a few people will help in Japan.

Thank you for your reply

I try to create a issue on docs-cb4.

I sent pull request.

@usk I used to do the Japanese document translation using Github. The steps were something like followings:

  • Fork the documentation project
  • Copy original dita files to Ja directory
  • Keep original English files so that we can merge upstream and know what changed
  • Create script files to generate static HTML from dita files
  • Commit generated files to [gh-pages] branch, to publish the contents (but it’s better to be published under couchbase.com)

It’d be wonderful if Couchbase can merge translated Japanese contents when meaningful part of 4.x documentation is translated. It happened once with Couchbase 1.8 and 2.0 before.

3.0 Ja preview is not fully done yet, but it’s worth to port it under couchbase.com as most part has been translated.

Hope this helps. @ingenthr please let usk know how Couchbase would like to do it.
